Rio Preto shines at home on Day 1 of the Rio de Janeiro Masters

RIO DE JANEIRO (2015 FIBA 3x3 World Tour) – Last year’s FIBA 3x3 World Tour Rio de Janeiro Masters winner Rodrigo Del’Arco picked it up where he left off with his new Rio Preto team with a perfect 2-0 record on the opening day of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Rio de Janeiro Masters on Saturday 26 September.

The shortest player of the tournament was his team’s top scorer (14 pts) as they reigned supreme in Pool B – probably the hardest group in the tournament – defeating a spectacular Chicago team and the winners of the Puerto Rican Quest (Team Juana Diaz).

In Pool A, Dusan Domovic Bulut proved why he is ranked the number one 3x3 player in the world leading all scorers on Saturday with 21 points. His team, the #1 seed Novi Sad Al Wahda, did not have a walk in the park but won both games against Anchieta (BRA) and La Plata (ARG).

Pelotas (BRA) had quite an upset on Day 1 in Pool C beating last year’s runners-up Team Santos (BRA), shortly after dominating the top team in Ecuador (Esmeraldas).

In Pool D, Demian Alvarez caught fire and ranks second in the scoring charts (17 points) but he could not stop group winners Team Rio in a thrilling game which the Brazilian team won in overtime on a Douglas Motta two-pointer.

Tomorrow's schedule from 10.45 local time (GMT-3):

Novi Sad Al Wahda (UAE, 1) – Montevideo (URU, 7)
Pelotas (BRA, 5) – Chicago (USA, 8)
Rio Preto (BRA, 2) – Santos (BRA, 3)
Rio (BRA, 4) – Anchieta (BRA, 11)

Games will be available live on FIBA 3x3's official YouTube channel.

Team Rio star Carlos Silva Jr showed he still had dynamite in his legs at the Bradesco Dunk Contest Qualifier. Next step for him tomorrow in the final against the two professional dunkers Dmitry ‘Smoove’ Krivenko (Ukraine) and Arek ‘ArO’ Przybylski (Poland).
