Professional women's 3x3 tournament to be held at Chengdu Challenger

CHENGDU (FIBA 3x3) - A women's tournament with 8 international teams and 6,000 USD in prize money will be staged during the Chengdu Challenger on May 26-27, 2018.

Some of the brightest stars in the 3x3 game will be in China this weekend, including Asia Cup 2018 top scorer Rebecca Cole (Australia), World Cup 2017 semi-finalist Jill Bettonvil (Netherlands) and U18 Asia Cup 2017 MVP Lea Kahol (Indonesia).

"We are looking forward to the women’s international tournament of "The Belt and Road Chengdu 3x3 Challenger 2018," FIBA 3x3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez said.

"We are confident it will be a successful event considering the Chengdu Basketball Association’s experience organizing 3x3 events. This meets a key goal of FIBA to offer women a regular international competition of the highest quality. FIBA fully supports this innovative initiative undertaken in cooperation with the Chinese Basketball Association and looks forward to announcing more plans to grow women’s 3x3."

Asia Cup 2018 silver medalists China will headline Pool A, with Europe Cup 2017 quarter-finalists Serbia, Indonesia and Mongolia.

Asia Cup 2018 bronze medalists Australia will be the team to beat in Pool B, which will also star Europe Cup 2017 bronze medalists Netherlands (with a new-look team), Belarus and China U23.

It will be Renae Garlepp's international 3x3 debut for Australia. Her husband Tom was the MVP of the Asia Cup earlier this month.

The top 2 teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals. The winners will win 3,000 USD, the runner-ups 2,000 USD and the team ranked third will take home 1,000 USD.

The event will be livestreamed on youtube.com/FIBA3x3.
