Filipino hopes lie with Pasig Chooks at Xiongan Challenger

Xiongan (CHINA) - The best team in the Philippines Pasig Chooks gets a new shot to make it to the World Tour at the Xiongan 3x3 Challenger on August 23-24.

Four months after a memorable win against the number 3 team in the world Liman (SRB) and an impressive 5th-place finish at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Doha Masters, Joshua Munzon and company are back on the professional circuit.

After failing to qualify in Kunshan (10th), Moscow (10th again) and Poitiers (8th), the Filipino powerhouse is back at it featuring Serbian star Nikola Pavlovic with their eyes on the prize: 15,000 USD and tickets to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Los Angeles Masters, powered by L.A. Times

Red hot Vrbas will be a massive hurdle on their lane. The Serbian team just won their 2nd Challenger of the season in Ljubljana  last weekend. They also turned heads at the Saskatoon Masters (2nd). But let's see how they play without their super-skilled big man Danilo Mijatovic.

Without him, we'll see a new face in Vrbas roster with the addition of Goran Ostojic, who's making his debut on the pro circuit. Also, Jesse Markusse will wear the Amsterdam jersey for the first time, replacing Jesper Jobse. The Dutch squad will try to win their first Challenger of the season after a disappointing run in Ljubljana, where they finished 8th.

Could Jeddah (KSA) surprise their opponents and make it to L.A? The Saudis finished 3rd in Ljubljana - their 2nd Challenger of the season -  after an impressive tournament coming all the way from the qualifying draw to the semi-finals and earned a ticket to the Debrecen Masters.

Five of the top 20 ranked teams in the world will compete in the 16-team tournament. The winner in Xiongan takes home $15,000 USD and there is $32,000 overall in prize money - a significant increase from $20,000 in challengers last year.

The two top teams earn tickets for the Los Angeles Masters on September 20-21 in the ninth stop on this season’s FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

World No.1 Novi Sad, Liman (SRB), Princeton (USA), Zemun (SRB) and Gagarin (RUS) have already qualified for Los Angeles.
