Most memorable stats of FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2020

JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia) - It’s been a memorable return to the 3x3 court this season, with four Masters events and the World Tour Final in Jeddah. Let’s take a statistical look back at the year and whose numbers jumped off the page.

Leading Scorer (136 pts): Karlis Lasmanis (Riga)

In order to win a World Tour title, you need a player like Karlis Lasmanis who can fill the score sheet from all levels of the floor.

‘Batman’ was able to finish top-5 in 1-pointers, 2-pointers, and free throws made, in 22 games of action.

He also led the field in dunks (9), driving the lane and throwing it down with authority. In the ultimate team basketball, all three top scorers on the World Tour 2020 reign from Riga, but it was Lasmanis who was the main beneficiary of the skillful passing of teammate Nauris Miezis, who led the World Tour in key assists.

Overall, Lasmanis took his game to the next level in 2020 and brought Riga the World Tour title they have been after for years.

Leader in P-VAL (143.3), Highlights (75) & Key Assists (44): Nauris Miezis (Riga)

While Lasmanis receives a lot of the top billing for Riga, Nauris Miezis, the number two player in the FIBA 3x3 individual world ranking, carried Riga and made the biggest shots when they needed it the most.

‘Robin’, as he is also known, led the field in Player Value (Player value is measured by the following: Shooting-value + Blocked Shots + Key Assists + Buzzer Beaters – Turnovers + (Rebounds/2), highlights, and key assists, proving to be one of the most dazzling players in 2020.

While his stats pop off the page, he may be even more dangerous in the clutch. He led all players in Tissot Buzzer Beaters (3), including the title-winning jumper over Liman, to win the World Tour Final, 21-20.

P-VAL per game (7.6): Ignas Vaitkus

A newcomer to 3x3 and the World Tour in 2020, Ignas Vaitkus led upstart Utena Uniclub (LTU) to surprising success throughout the season. Vaitkus was a two-time “Dream Team” member, being awarded one of the top players in both Jeddah and Debrecen for the World Tour return events.

Playing in only 13 games, the Lithuanian also ranked 8th in total P-Val (98.4) and was always one of the most feared players on the court. In addition to his P-VAL standings, he also finished second in shooting value per game, was fourth in highlights, and fourth in drives.

Utena Uniclub will be one of the most interesting teams heading into 2021 as they may be the cream of the crop in FIBA 3x3, all thanks to their leading man.

Points per game (7.6): Joey King (NY Harlem)

While Joey King was noticeably absent from the Doha Masters in November, every time he is on the court, NY Harlem is one of the toughest teams in the game.

At 7.6 points per game, American Joey King was the inside-outside threat that often couldn’t be stopped. He shot a staggering 67% from inside the arc, and 90% from the free-throw line, making them all count.

While everyone has their eyes on ‘Disco Domo’ Jones, King was quietly the best player for NY Harlem this season and was the reason they were able to once again advance to the World Tour Final bracket stage.

Most Rebounds (110): Agnis Cavars (Riga)

If there was a true unsung hero on the 2020 World Tour, it would be Agnis Cavars. The fourth member of Riga, Cavars is the only team member not to score at least 100 points over the course of the 2020 season.

But it was the small things that made him an undervalued member of the World Tour Final champions. He finished with 110 rebounds, 15 more than second place. He also gobbled up 5.0 rebounds per game, good for fourth for the season, including 39 offensive rebounds.

Surprisingly the slashing Dimeo van der Horst (Amsterdam, NED) - not a traditional rebounder by any mean - ranked 1st overall in rebounds per game (though on a small 6-game sample) on the season. More expectedly Aurelijus Pukelis (Sakiai Gulbele, LTU) and Westher Molteni (Lausanne Katapult, SUI) finished 2nd and 3rd in that category.

Most 2-pointers (36); Edgars Krumins (Riga)

The Riga celebration continues with a closer look at Edgar Krumins, the sharpshooter who made more 2-pointers than anyone on the 2020 World Tour.

Whenever Miezis or Lasmanis were off, Krumins came up big, time and time again, providing deadly outside shooting and quick bursts of fire that kept the team going. He finished as the third-leading scorer on the World Tour (122 points) and seventh in total P-VAL (99.6), not bad for the third option on his own team.

If we look at the 2-point percentage, Krumins slipped a little to 12th overall (only looking at players with at least 5 made on the season). The best shooters in the game this year were from Lithuania. Vytautas Sulskis (48%), Zygimantas Skucas (47%) and Sarunas Vingelis (42%) ranked 1, 2, 3 in 2020.

Tissot Fastest Game: Lausanne Katapult

In a strange game, the usually strong NY Harlem were reduced to two players after Marcel Esonwune went down with an injury. Disco Domo and David Seagers did their best but Lausanne Katapult - led by Gilles Martin and ‘King’ Wes Molteni - had their eyes on the record.

The pool stage game only took 5 minutes and 19 seconds, the all-time best for a Tissot Fastest Game since this category was created back in 2019.
