FIBA 3x3 San Juan Challenger cancelled due to Hurricane Fiona

SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The FIBA 3x3 San Juan Challenger 2022 had to be stopped before the end of Day 1 due to safety risks associated with the passing of Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico on September 17 and beyond.

The event was consequently cancelled to preserve the safety of the teams, officials and fans, who are well.

In accordance with Article 12.1 of the Men's Pro Circuit Handbook regarding standings due to force majeure,

"If a Pro Event had started (i.e. at least one game has been played) but was not completed (e.g. the final game did not take place) due to force majeure, the non-played games will be decided using the seeding numbers. No score will be attributed to such games, which will be recorded only as W-L (Win-Loss)."

the last four games of pool play were decided using the seeding numbers.

Consequently, the number one seed Ub (SRB) ranked first in the final standings. Considering Ub finished second in their pool and out-seeded the number two seed Antwerp (BEL) in the semi-finals, the number three seed Princeton (USA) ranked second in the final standings.

Both teams will therefore compete at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Paris Masters 2022 on October 7-8.

Our thoughts go to the people of Puerto Rico, who have embraced 3x3 since day one (Team San Juan won the first edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour), and have to deal with the consequences of Hurricane Fiona.
